Steven has over 40 years’ experience in coal exploration, conventional oil and gas, unconventional oil and gas and CSG exploration, appraisal and development in Australia and internationally. He started in the Coal Exploration Section of the Geological Survey of Queensland as a geological cadet. He transferred to the Petroleum Resources section as a geologist, where he was involved in petroleum and CSG tenure management, promotion and research as well as policy advice and the revision and development of legislation.
Steven joined Queensland Gas Company in 2000 as Senior Geologist and was instrumental in the initial exploration and appraisal of QGC’s Surat Basin acreage. During this period, he oversaw the development of QGC’s reserve base from zero to over 600PJ of 1P, over 2,400PJ of 2P and over 7,100PJ of 3P. By the BG Group takeover of QGC, he was Vice President, Exploration and Technical Services with the oversight of all exploration, geological services and budgetary control of QGC’s exploration programs.
Steven joined Senex Energy in 2010 as General Manager, Exploration and managed Senex’s conventional and unconventional oil and gas and CSG exploration in Queensland and South Australia.
In 2016 he formed Adavale Energy with Brent Glassborow. Adavale Energy is a boutique consultancy firm, delivering integrated technical, project management and business development services for the petroleum industry and consulting services for technology and innovation product solutions.
Steven has a Bachelor of Science (Hons), Geology and Mineralogy from the University of Queensland and a Doctor of Philosophy from the James Cook University. Steven is a member of AAPG, PESA, GSA, and is a registered Petroleum Geologist. He has co-authored numerous coal, petroleum and CSG industry peer reviewed papers, including many of the initial research papers of the CSG potential of the Surat Basin.

Brent is an energy industry professional focused on Australasian new ventures and technical program management.
Brent began his energy career in offshore drilling operations as a logging geologist and LWD engineer in Australia and the UK.
He has extensive experience Queensland beginning with QGC during the initial Berwyndale South, Undulla Nose field development in subsurface operations. Brent progressed to Head of Subsurface Operations managing a multidisciplinary team of geologists, operations geophysicist, petroleum engineer, contract field personnel and technical assistants responsible for delivering all subsurface data acquisition operations and analysis for exploration, appraisal and early stage field development programs - exceeding 150 core and production wells and a US$100mm per annum drilling budget. Brent and his team were responsible for developing and delivering innovative approaches to efficient CSG developments in Queensland, including exclusive contracting arrangements, remote wellbore monitoring and DST based reserve certification – in place of exploration production testing supporting Queensland Gas Company’s rapid 2P reserve base growth from 355 PJ in 2005 to >5,000 PJ in 2010.
This was followed by various portfolio management and technical positions in Australia, UK and Brazil for BG Group including Principal Petrophysicist and Global Petrophysics and Shale Gas Technology Portfolio Manager. Prior to returning to Australia he was the BG Group’s Global Subsurface Technology Manager based in Brazil, managing an annual budget of >US$40mm and the global research functional teams consisting of 13 technically specialised personnel for Geology, Geophysics, Reservoir Engineering and Petrophysics, including thematic portfolios specific to Carbonate and Tight Reservoirs. With an emphasis on delivering business benefit through innovation and technology implementation Brent managed subsurface projects on five continents focused on improving evaluation techniques and enhanced production.
On returning to Australia, Brent founded a boutique consultancy firm with Dr Steven Scott delivering integrated technical, project management and business development services for the petroleum industry and consulting services for technology and innovation product solutions.
Brent has a Bachelor of Applied Science (App Geol) from RMIT and a Bachelor of Science (Hons), Petroleum Geology and Geophysics from the Australian School of Petroleum (University of Adelaide). Brent is a member of SPE, PESA, FESAus, SPWLA (former VP Brazil communications), LPS and has co-authored numerous petroleum industry peer reviewed papers.
